Pluto No Longer a Planet !
And then there were 8.
Today, leading astronomers (International Astronomical Union) declared that Pluto is no longer a planet after its initial discovery in 1930. The debate which involved looking at four separate proposals lasted for 8 days.
The Cast:
Planets: The eight worlds from Mercury to Neptune.
Dwarf Planets: Pluto and any other round object that "has not cleared the neighborhood around its orbit, and is not a satellite." Dwarf planets are not planets in the definition.
Small Solar System Bodies: All other objects orbiting the Sun.
And I thought demotion applied only in the workplace! I'm sure future generations will miss out on such an interesting planet. At least they will still know another Pluto (the Disney character).
Nothing is really permanent in this world... well, solar system.
